Program Notes:
Lately, I have been thinking about change and transition, and all the things we carry with us as we move from one point to another. The joy we carry, the hurt we carry; the memories we carry, the hopes we carry. This piece, the things we carry, began mostly as purely gestural and textural experimentation, which is not how I usually approach composing. But as the music began to grow into a more solid form, I questioned what subconscious thoughts and emotions may have informed this work. What are the things that we carry, and how long do they stay with us?
