Program Notes:
Song of the Bison was composed for the of the film Carmen by artist Ieva Lygnugarytė, which is based on the poem Carmen de statura, feritate ac venatione bisontis by Nicolaus Hussovianus. This long poem paints the world of the bison, the forests that they inhabited, and the people of the region. The film also samples this work and it is interwoven throughout the soundscape. This work appears in its totality during the climactic scene of the film. This piece can be presented as an installation in the film or in live performance with the video.
