Chicago Classical Review: Violinist Tashiro’s Piazzolla outing highlights a mixed IPO program

Oswald’s Then, as if breathing, the sea swelled beneath us was premiered on November 18, 2023 by the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Stilian Kirov. This concert was reviewed by Landon Hegedus in the Chicago Classical Review. The review highlights the “daring feature for solo cello” and “Huỳnh’s gift for crafting compelling melodies and conjuring timbral atmosphere.” Oswald is currently Composer-in-Residence with the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra, and this was the first of three new works.

The next premiere will be on April 13, 2023, with additional music by Haydn, Mozart, and Bologne.
